Grease Interceptors

Usage of Grease interceptors and mud-oil catchers

The Grease Interceptors are designed to collect oils and fats flowing out of kitchens, food and meat processing operations, etc. The oils and fats are precipitated and collected in the Grease Interceptors to protect the sewer and other parts from being fouled and clogged up.

Grease Interceptors are installed within the sewer system at the point where the waste water containing the oils and fats originates. Waste water from bathrooms and toilets must not be discharged into the Grease Interceptors. The output from the household waste water treatment plants should not flow trough the Grease Interceptors if the water contains a large amount of fat. Decomposing fat causes acidification of the water and gives rise to biochemical and mechanical defects, resulting in a decreased waste water treatment efficiency.

Waste disposer shall not be installed before the grease interceptor. Using the kitchen disposer is not allowed due to the excessive loading of the interceptor with organic matter (the sewer does not serve as a transport system for the waste, and neither does the grease interceptor serve as a cleaning unit or a sludge sump).
